Find the hidden problem

Manual
⌁User prompt

Why does my AI-built app break when a second user logs in?

Assistant response

A convincing demo can hide assumptions about identity. If every page was tested with one account, a query that forgets to filter by the current user may still look correct. The problem appears only when another account creates records and the application starts returning data that belongs to somebody else.

Follow identity through the full request: authenticated session, server-side authorization, database query, cache, and response. A user identifier supplied by the browser is an input to inspect, not proof of ownership. Each resource access needs an authorization decision based on the authenticated user and the application's actual sharing rules.

Caching creates another place for mistakes. A response that is correct for one user can become incorrect if a cache key omits the identity or permission context on which the result depends. The same concern applies to background jobs, exports, uploaded files, and notifications, even when the main dashboard looks isolated.

Treat generated code as code that needs inspection, not as evidence that the requirements were understood. is a useful starting point for AI-assisted development responsibilities. Your acceptance criterion should describe observable access boundaries, including what a second account must never be able to retrieve.

Step 2

Build a practical check

Manual
⌁User prompt

How do I test user isolation before launch?

Assistant response

Create two ordinary test accounts and one explicitly shared resource in a development environment. Give each account a distinct private record with an unmistakable marker. Verify that each account can retrieve its own record, cannot retrieve the other's record by identifier, and can access the shared record only in the permitted way.

Exercise the server endpoints directly as well as the interface. Hiding an edit button does not establish that the edit request is rejected. Test read, update, delete, export, and file-download operations with the wrong account, then confirm that failures do not reveal private record contents in the response or logs.

Repeat the important checks after switching accounts in the same browser and after warming any relevant cache. Add a background-job case if the app sends email, generates documents, or processes uploads. A job should retain the correct ownership context rather than accidentally using whichever user or organization a worker last handled.

Keep a small regression suite around these boundaries because they protect actual user data. A useful result records the endpoint, requesting account, target owner, expected outcome, and observed outcome. Launch only after the access rules match the product's intended sharing model, including explicit collaboration cases rather than an oversimplified rule that nothing can ever be shared.
